Can’t wait for the Winter Sports Season? Remember your Travel Insurance

Winter sports season already? Yes! It’s now the beginning of October (you’d be forgiven if you were still waiting for a summer) and the new ski gear is out, bookings are being made and it’s not long before snow flurries will fall and winter sports holidays will begin.

When packing, the usual list will be drawn up to ensure everything is remembered - goggles, gloves, ski outfits, passports etc. A top tip from click4quote is to make sure winter sports travel insurance is also on that list, as if forgotten this is not something that you can go and buy off the shelf when you arrive or when you need it.

When buying travel insurance make sure you select winter sports travel insurance and not standard travel insurance. Winter sports cover is usually sold as ‘extra cover’ available for an additional price as it is designed to cover you again what is generally a hazardous activity – skiing and snowboarding!

Another top tip from click4quote is to not simply treat winter sports travel insurance as an item on your list that needs to get checked off. Take time when purchasing cover as most winter sports cover does vary, as do standard travel insurance policies, so read the policy summary and the policy wording carefully.

This sounds boring doesn’t it – reading an insurance policy – watching paint dry is probably coming to mind! Lets put it this way, that ‘boring’ wording is protecting you, your partner too or even your family and what is 10 minutes reading to check you have cover compared against a huge medical bill for thousands of pounds or maybe not getting the assistance you need when you and your family need it most?

Be sensible, if you are off to a resort and want to go off-piste skiing, heli-sking, to snowboard parks or any other extreme winter sport make sure you tell your insurance provider or check the wording as winter sports travel insurance does not always cover all winter sports automatically although cover may be obtained for additional premiums or special conditions may be applied to your policy, such as having to have a resort guide and be within resort boundaries if you want to ski off-piste.

So remember, be sensible, take time when choosing travel insurance and most importantly – have fun! Don’t let a small accident spoil your trip because you didn’t take time to read your travel insurance policy!
